India to host 2011 Champions Trophy
July 21st, 2010 - 3:26 pm ICT by IANSChennai, July 21 (IANS) The 2011 Champions Trophy for men has been allotted to India, while the Netherlands will host the women’s event.
The commercial success of the Hero Honda World Cup in Delhi earlier this year has obviously been a key factor that influenced FIH’s decision to allot the elite tournament, restricted to the top six ranked teams, to India.
It will be the third time that India would be hosting the prestigious event after Chennai in 1996 and 2005.
The men’s event is scheduled for December and the women’s, in June 2011, and the exact dates and venues of both the tournaments will be finalised in due course, according to a press release from the International Hockey Federation (FIH).
