India register their highest total against South Africa (Statistical highlights)

Kolkata, Feb 16 (IANS) India registered their highest total against South Africa on the third day of the second cricket Test at Eden Gardens here Tuesday.
India made 643 for six declared in their second innings, surpassing the 627 at Chennai in March 2008. The total is also their highest against South Africa at Eden Gardens, obliterating the 411 in November 2004.
Other statistical highlights of the day:
# For the fourth time in Tests at Eden Gardens, India (643/6 declared) have posted a total of 600 plus — the first three occasions being the 657 for seven wickets declared against Australia in 2000-01; 633 for five wickets declared against Australia in 1997-98 and 616 for five wickets declared against Pakistan in 2007-08.
# Mahendra Singh Dhoni and V.V.S. Laxman were associated in an unbroken stand of 259 - India’s highest for the seventh wicket in Tests, surpassing the 235 between Ravi Shastri and Syed Kirmani against England at Mumbai in November 1984.
# Mishra’s 28 off 38 balls is his highest innings on Indian soil and his second best in Tests, next only to the 50 against Bangladesh at Chittagong last month.
# This is Laxman’s first century (143 not out) against South Africa is his 15th in Tests. His previous best against South Africa was 89 at Port Elizabeth in November 2001.
# Laxman is the first Indian to make 1,000 runs at Eden Gardens, amassing 1041 (ave.94.63) in nine Tests, including four hundreds and three 50s.
# For the second time in Tests, four Indian batsmen have made hundreds in a Test innings - the first occasion being the 2007 Mirpur Test against Bangladesh when Dinesh Karthik 129, Wasim Jaffer 139 (retired hurt), Rahul Dravid 129 and Sachin Tendulkar 122 not out, posted centuries.
# The Kolkata Test, now in progress has witnessed six centuries - the first instance in any Test involving India and South Africa.
# Mahendra Singh Dhoni (132 not out) has registered his highest score and the first century against South Africa.
# Dhoni’s magnificent unbeaten 132 is his highest innings in India, surpassing the 110 against Sri Lanka at Ahmedabad in November 2009.
# It is Dhoni’s first at Eden Gardens. He has extended his record for most hundreds (4) as wicketkeeper for India.
