New Delhi, Sep 19 (ANI): Union Urban Development Minister and Chairman of the Group of Ministers (GoM) panel on the Commonwealth Games Jaipal Reddy has said there is no attempt to cover-up delay in infrastructure and facilities creation, and added that India is ready to host the 2010 Games beginning on October 3.

“We are ready to host the Games. We wanted to do better and we have done our best. The delay in work and preparation has happened everywhere. We don’t want to cover-up our negative sides,” said Reddy.

“We don’t want to cover-up our negative sides. I have full satisfaction and I am proud that we have done this much,” he added during his visit to the Games Village here on Saturday.

Reddy also ruled out the scare of a dengue outbreak.

“Dengue is a seasonal outbreak, there is nothing to be worried about. Whatever steps needed, we have taken them all because we are concerned about the health of the athletes,” said Reddy.

The dengue menace continued unabated in the national capital with 71 more patients testing positive for the vector-borne disease on Saturday, taking the total number of cases to 2,224.

The capital has reported five dengue deaths this season. During the same period last year, the number of cases of the vector-borne disease in the city was only 21 while it was 369 and 75 in the corresponding periods in 2008 and 2007.

Dengue is transmitted by the bite of an Aedes mosquito infected with any one of the four-dengue viruses. It occurs in tropical and sub-tropical regions, making India a perfect recipe for disaster.

The 2010 Commonwealth Games, which will be held from October 3-14, is India’s biggest sporting event since the 1982 Asian Games.India is expecting about two million tourists in New Delhi for the Games, as well as about 10,000 athletes from 71 teams representing 54 Commonwealth member states. (ANI)
