India keep Sri Lanka in check in first 10 overs

Mumbai, April 2 (IANS) Seasoned seamer Zaheer Khan led India to a sound start by maintaining a steady line and length and provided the early breakthrough by dismissing Upul Tharanga (2) in the World Cup final against Sri Lanka here Saturday.
After ten overs, Sri Lanka were 31/1, with their most successful batsman Tillakaratne Dilshan (22 not out) and skipper Kumar Sangakkara (3 not out) in the middle.
The Mumbai left-arm pacer bowled back-to-back maidens in his first three overs as openers Tharanga and Dilshan found it hard to get him away as the Indians showed a lot of agility on the field.
Tharanga edged an away going delivery and Virender Sehwag threw himself on to the ground to lap up the low catch in Zaheer’s fourth over. A deafening roar greeted the fall of the first Sri Lankan wicket. The left- arm pacer was yet to give a run in the match as all his first three overs were maidens.
