India finish third in Asian vovinam championship
July 24th, 2010 - 10:51 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, July 24 (IANS) The Indian vovinam team bagged one gold, seven silver and six bronze medals to finish third in the Asian vovinam championship.
The tournament, which was held at Kish Island, Iran from July 17, concluded Thursday, Vovinam Association of India said in a statement Saturday.
“The Indian team won a total of 14 medals and came third in the championships. India also improved upon their last performance in Asian indoor games 2009 where they won nine medals,” said federation’s general secretary Praveen Garg.
Vietnam, where the martial art sport originated, stood first with Iran and India at second and third places, respectively.
The Indian team also participated in the world martial arts performance event and came second.
