India finish at top of medals tally in South Asian Shooting

New Delhi, July 10 (IANS) Indian shooters finished at the top of medals tally in the 5th South Asian Shooting Championship in Bangladesh, winning 21 out of the 24 gold medals.
India won gold in the women’s rifle three positions in the last event Thursday.

India’s ace shooter Tejaswini Sawant claimed the individual gold with a score of 571. Sabrina Sultana (570 pts) of Bangladesh took the silver while her compatriot Tripti Dutta (568 pts) bagged the bronze.

Another Indian shooter Meena Kumari was placed fourth with a score of 567.

Hosts Bangladesh put together 1703 points to win the gold in the team event. Sawant, Meena Kumari and Navdeep Kaur of India won the silver, scoring 1702 points. Pakistani markswomen Nazish Khan, Nosheen and Nadia collected 1633 points to win the bronze.

Indian shooters captured the top spot with a record 21 gold, 11 silver and 5 bronze medals in the week-long competition.

Pakistan finished a distant runners-up with two golds, five silvers and nine bronzes. Bangladesh edged past Sri Lanka with one gold, six silver and six bronze medals for the third position. Sri Lankans were fourth with two silver and four bronze medals.
