Mohali, Dec 19 (IANS) India opener Gautam Gambhir, who hit an unbeaten century on the opening day of the second cricket Test against England Friday, declared that his team is eyeing a clean sweep in the two Test series.Indian got off to a flying start and were 179 for one before bad light forced drawing of stumps early. Gambhir, who is unbeaten on 106, said the team is playing well and eager to clinch the series.
“We want to win this series with 2-0 margin which will also help us to improve our International Cricket Council’s (ICC’s) Test rankings. I am also excited as I am near the 1,000-run mark in Tests this year,” said Gambhir, who is 36 runs away from reaching the milestone.
“We played positive cricket. However, by losing Sehwag so early, we were forced to follow the defensive approach. Our captain told us to spend time on the crease and try to build a partnership,” Gambhir told reporters.
Rahul Dravid (65 not out) and Gambhir built an unbeaten 173 run partnership, which is a record second-wicket stand at PCA.
“Dravid is a fantastic player. He is an outstanding batsman and has over 10,000 Test runs.”
Gambhir said the PCA pitch is lucky for him, as his 104 runs against Australia in October also came at this venue. This was Gambhir’s fourth Test century and third this year.
