India drop to third place in ICC Test rankings
January 28th, 2012 - 11:20 am ICT by IANSAdelaide, Jan 28 (IANS) India dropped a place to the third spot in International Cricket Council (ICC) Test rankings after their humiliating 0-4 whitewash by Australia in the Border Gavaskar Trophy that concluded here Saturday.
India, which had entered the series in second place on 118 ratings points, has fallen to 111 rating points. Fourth-ranked Australia has boosted its standing in the Championship table after gaining eight rating points which has put it alongside India on 111 rating points.
However, Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s side is still ranked above Michael Clarke’s men by a fraction of a point. When the ratings are calculated beyond the decimal point, India has 111.10 rating points while Australia is on 110.80 rating points.
Australia will have a chance to move ahead of India when it travels to the West Indies in March to play in a three-Test series, which will start in Barbados in April. Australia will need to win the series by 1-0 or better to achieve number three position on the Championship table.
Since Dec 16, 2010 India have dropped from 129 rating points to 111 rating points.
In the last 13 months, India drew 1-1 in South Africa, won 1-0 in the West Indies, lost 4-0 in England, beat the West Indies (2-0) at home before losing 0-4 in Australia.
England and South Africa are on the number one and two position with 125 and 117 rating points respectively.
