India clubbed with S. Korea, Australia in Asian Cup soccer
April 24th, 2010 - 12:50 am ICT by IANSNew Delhi, April 23 (IANS) India have been clubbed with World Cup finalists Australia and South Korea in Group C of the 2011 Asian Cup football tournament to be played in Doha from Jan 7-29.
The glitzy draw ceremony took place at the majestic Aspire Dome in Doha in the presence of top officials of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) and other member associations. The tournament will be hosted at the Khalifa Stadium.
Indian got a direct entry into the finals by the virtue of winning the 2008 AFC Challenge Cup in Hyderabad. The other team in Group C is Bahrain.
Defending champions Iraq have been clubbed with arch-rivals Iran, World Cup finalists North Korea and UAE in Group D while hosts Qatar, China, Kuwait and Uzbekistan are in Group A.
Three-time champions Japan will face Saudi Arabia alongside Syria and Jordan in Group B.
