September 22nd, 2011 - 8:44 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Sep 22 (IANS) India continued their winning ways in girls under-18 Asia Cup hockey by beating Malaysia 4-1 in their last round robin Pool B match in Bangkok Thursday.
The goal scorers for India, who led 2-0 at half time, were Anupa Barla (13th and 55th min), Poonam Rani (19th) and Navjot Kaur (57th min). Nadia Khan scored the consolation goal for Malaysia in the 64th minute.
India have already qualified for the semi-final Tuesday after they defeated China.
Thursday’s match was played in rain after a delayed start after the pitch became wet.
The Indian strikers led by skipper Poonam and supported by Anupa, Neha and Navjot made the best use of the heavy conditions.
Malaysia attempted to play full press initially but the Indian midfielders Namita Toppo, Nikki Pradhan and Balvinder Kaur Mehra thwarted their onslaughts.
This was India’s fourth consecutive win in the tournament. They had earlier beaten Kazakhstan 12-0, Sri Lanka 13-0 and China 4-2. Apart from South Korea, they are the only undefeated team.
South Korea will play China in the first semi-final Friday while India will face Japan in the evening.
