virenderAhmedabad, Nov 4, (THAINDIAN NEWS) India asserted its dominance over New Zealand on the first day of the first test between the two sides at Ahmedabad. With Virender Sehwag and Rahul Dravid both posting centuries, the inexperienced New Zealand bowling attack was left hapless against the Indian onslaught.

The first session started off well for the Indians and they scored at almost 5 runs an over till the 12th over when Gautam Gambhir was dismissed. Inside-edging a delivery from Jesse Ryder into the stumps, Gautam Gambhir provided the only reason for Kiwi celebrations before lunch. Daniel Vettori had come on to put the shackles on the scoring rate but post lunch Virender Sehwag broke out again. This time Rahul Dravid played the perfect foil for his partner and the two looked set to take the score to mammoth proportions. Scoring at almost 100 strike rate, Virender Sehwag reached his 150 at almost run-a-ball and the New Zealand bowlers could only wait for him to make a mistake. The juggernaut finally fell to Daniel Vettori when one of the deliveries spun little and took the inside edge that crashed into the middle stump.

Sachin Tendulkar came out next and considering the form that he is in, the Indian fans knew that there was little chance of a New Zealand comeback. Rahul Dravid completed his ton soon after India reached the 300 mark. He, however, soon perished after scoring his century when a short ball from Chris Martin was dragged into the stumps by the veteran. India finished the days proceedings at 329/3 with Sachin Tendulkar (13*) and VVS Laxman (7*) at the crease.
