Shoaib Akhtar Islamabad, Mar 25(ANI): Pakistan, which romped into the 2011 World Cup semi-finals with a thumping win over the West Indies, must guard against complacency if they want to win the tournament, former captain Imran Khan has said.

Pakistan registered a convincing ten-wicket win over the West Indies in Dhaka in the first of four quarterfinals on Wednesday.

“Pakistan were expected to beat the West Indies who had not beaten any top nation in this World Cup,” the Daily Times quoted Imran, who led Pakistan to their only World Cup win in 1992, as saying.

“Now I hope the team keep their feet on the ground and keep up the good work,” he added.

Pakistan are set to encounter arch rivals India in the semi-final stage at Mohali on March 30 as the co-hosts beat Australia by five wickets in Thursday’s quarterfinal in Ahmedabad.

Expectations are high in the cricket-crazy region for a mouth-watering Pakistan-India clash for a slot in the World Cup final match to be held at Mumbai on April 2.

Imran said that a lot of people were expecting an Indo-Pak semifinal, and advised Pakistan to give pace bowler Shoaib Akhtar a chance in the crucial match.

“Since Indian batsmen play spin well, my advice would be to include Shoaib Akhtar in the team,” said Imran of the Rawalpindi Express, who last week announced to retire from international cricket after the ongoing World Cup. (ANI)
