‘I’ll continue to learn from ex-captain Ponting’, says Clarke
March 31st, 2011 - 12:39 pm ICT by ANIMelbourne, Mar 31(ANI): New Australian skipper Michael Clarke has said that Ricky Ponting’s stature in the game will not prove a hindrance to him, but the 36-year-old’s inputs will only help him gain experience to lead the national squad.
Clarke was confirmed as the Test and one-day skipper yesterday, in succession to Ponting, who stood down following Australia’s World Cup quarterfinal elimination.
His first duty will be to lead an Australia side containing Ponting - now free to concentrate on his batting - into an ODI series in Bangladesh next month.
“He’s got amazing experience. He’s been an amazing cricket player. I’ll continue to learn from him. I think Bangladesh will be a great test for that to see how it all unfolds. I know he’ll allow me to do my job to the best of my ability,” the Sydney Morning Herald quoted Clarke, as saying. (ANI)
