Ijaz Butt to head anti-corruption committee formed by PCB as per ICC guidelines
October 23rd, 2010 - 4:35 pm ICT by ANIIslamabad, Oct 23 (ANI): The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has constituted a seven-member committee, in line with the instructions given by the International Cricket Council (ICC) to eradicate corruption from the game.
PCB Chairman Ijaz Butt will head the committee, which will be authorised to take immediate action against any player or official found to be involved in corruption, the Daily Times reported.
PCB Chief Operating Officer Wasim Bari and PCB General Manager Cricket Operations Zakir Khan are also included in the committee.
But the PCB has chosen to keep mum on the issue of forming the committee to ensure the enforcement of strict anti-corruption measures in the game as per the ICC recommendations.
When contacted, Bari refused to confirm or deny the existence of the committee. However, sources revealed that the committee’s formation would be announced after the governing council of the PCB meets on November 1 and formally approves it.
“There are seven members on the committee and their main task is to ensure that all recommendations made by the ICC are implemented and anti-corruption laws are enforced properly in international and domestic cricket,” the source added.
Earlier this month, the ICC had issued a strict warning to the PCB to improve its governance and implement a series of measures within next 30 days, or risk facing sanctions. (ANI)
