ICC confirms nomination of Isaac as ICC vice-president
August 9th, 2010 - 7:56 pm ICT by IANSDubai, Aug 9 (IANS) New Zealand Cricket (NZC) chairman Allan Issac will take over as the new International Cricket Council (ICC) vice-president after the executive board unanimously endorsed his nomination for the post from 2010 to 2012.
Isaac was the nomination of Cricket Australia (CA) and (NZC) and will be stepping down from his post of chairman with the Black Caps.
Isaac was the replacement for former Australian Prime Minister John Howard whose candidature was rejected twice, mainly due to the opposition of the strong African and Asian bloc.
“It is a great honour and privilege to be confirmed as the ICC vice-president. I am looking forward to serving our great sport at international level and protecting the primacy of international cricket,” said Isaac.
The ICC president Sharad Pawar said he is looking forward to work with Isaac.
“I am delighted to announce that Alan Isaac’s nomination for the role of ICC vice-president was unanimously endorsed by the ICC executive board and the full ICC council, by circular resolution, has also approved the recommendation of the board. I am looking forward to working with Alan as we now set out to continue improving the ICC’s image and reputation,” Pawar said in a statement.
“I know that Alan is a highly-respected cricket administrator having contributed significantly to New Zealand Cricket as well as the ICC.”
Haroon Lorgat, the ICC Chief Executive, added: “Alan is determined to build context and content in the Future Tours Programme for international cricket while maintaining the primacy of the ICC global events.
“I am looking forward to working with him and I know that together with Sharad Pawar they will look to enhance the international game as well as the unity that exists within the game.”
