ICC chief Pawar clueless on media non-rights holders’ issue
April 1st, 2011 - 8:29 pm ICT by IANSMumbai, April 1 (IANS) International Cricket Council (ICC) president Sharad Pawar was Friday clueless about the status of media non-rights holders when asked why they were not permitted to enter the Wankhede Stadium to attend the pre-match press conferences on the eve of the India-Sri Lanka World Cup final.
“I have no idea about it. There was some meeting yesterday and I don’t know what was the outcome of the meeting. I think some communications might have reached up to you and that is final,” he said.
The ICC has accused Indian television channels, who are non-rights holders, of breaching the accreditation guidelines.
The ICC withdrew the accreditation of the electronic media for the India-Pakistan semifinal’s pre-match press conferences. It was after a 24 hour truce that they could cover the match Wednesday.
But talks between the News Broadcasters’ Association (NBA) and the ICC could not reach an agreement on the coverage.
