IBF announces probables for CWG, Asian Games
July 22nd, 2010 - 11:01 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, July 22 (IANS) The Indian Boxing Federation (IBF) Thursday announced 48 probables for the Commonwealth Games and Asian Games in October and November respectively.
These boxers will attend the senior national men’s boxing coaching camp at NIS Patiala and have been selected on the basis of their previous performances as well as the recently concluded senior national men’s boxing championships here last week.
IBF secretary general P. K. Muralidharan Raja said they will decide the final team for the events during the selection trials Aug 17-19. The venue for selection is yet to be decided.
“We will decide the team for the Asian Games and the Commonwealth Games in August. As per government’s guidelines for the camp, we can only have four boxers per weight category. There are ten weight categories. That means we cannot have more than 40 boxers but we have some talented youngsters who we believe should compete at this level,” Raja told IANS.
“We have send a request to the government to allow the additional eight players for camp. If they do not agree, then the federation will pay for their food and lodging.
“The criteria of their selection will be their previous international performance, the feedback of their training at the NIS Patiala, and their performance during the three-day selection trials where they will have bouts against each other,” he said.
