I will quit boxing in five years, says Brit boxer Amir Khan
October 8th, 2010 - 5:20 pm ICT by ANILondon, Oct 8(ANI): British boxer Amir Khan has said that he will quit the sport in five years time, at the age of 28.
The 23-year-old is the current WBA light-welterweight champion, and will defend his crown against Argentine Marcos Maidana in December.
“By the time I’m 28 that’s the time for me to hang my gloves up and stay with my family,” The Sun quoted Khan, as saying.
“I’m going to walk out of this sport the way I walked in - and that’s what I want to tell other people who box. You don’t want to walk out of the sport brain dead,” he added.
Khan burst into the boxing world at the 2004 Athens Olympics where he won a silver medal to become the youngest British Olympic boxing medallist at the age of 17.
He is commonly known by the nickname “King Khan”.
Khan won the WBA World light welterweight belt at the age of 22, making him Britain’s third-youngest world champion after Naseem Hamed and Herbie Hide. (ANI)
