I will lead the team in my own style: Afridi
July 30th, 2009 - 3:59 pm ICT by ANIDambulla (Sri Lanka), July 30 (ANI): Newly appointed captain of the Pakistan Twenty20 squad, Shahid Afridi has said that he will lead the side his own style.
Afridi, who was appointed captain of the T20 squad following Younis Khan’s sudden retirement from the bang-bang version of the game after leading the team to ICC World T20 Championship win, said captaining the national team is a ‘very big responsibility, and he will give his best to the team.
“I will try to come up to the expectations of PCB chairman Ijaz Butt who has picked me as captain,” Afridi said.
Afridi said he would like to carry on from where he left during the World T20 Championship in England.
He made it clear that he has his own ways of dealing with issues and that he would be a hard task-master.
“My team-mates know my body language. And those who deserve love and respect, I will treat them in that way but others will be handled differently. But I’ll try my level best to give my best for my team and nation,” The Daily Times quoted Afridi, as saying.
Replying to a question, Afridi, who has been given responsibility of a national team for the very first time, said he would consult his senior team colleagues on important issues but at the end of the day decisions would be his own. (ANI)
