I want to bowl with consistency: Edwards

Roseau (Dominica), July 5 (IANS) West Indies pacer Fidel Edwards, who made a strong comeback in the ongoing Test series against India, said he is looking to bowl with consistency and get back to his best.

Edwards has been out of the Test team with injuries for a large part of two years. He has quickly got back to business and emerged as the West Indies’ most successful bowler with 13 wickets at 19.84 each in the first two matches of the ongoing Digicel Test series against India.

After Monday’s training session at Windsor Park, Edwards spoke about his recent performances and his desire to get better.

“I will not say I am back to my best but I have been taking wickets. It is the wickets the team needs. If I can keep improving, I will be back to my best quite soon. I have to improve my consistency so hopefully I will be able to put it together in the match here and get more wickets,” said Edwards ahead of the third and final Test beginning Wednesday.

Edwards bowled with great pace in the second Test in Barbados and took eight wickets in the match. It helped him climb seven places in the ICC rankings to No.18.

“My aim is to become the No.1 bowler in the world. Now I’m back to achieve my goal. I was away from the game for a few years and it feels good to be back. I’m bowling quite well and also getting the ball to reverse swing. I worked a lot to get the ball to reverse swing, now it’s working well for me,” said the 29-year-old.

Fidel heaped praise on his new ball partner Ravi Rampaul.

“Sharing the new ball with Ravi has been great. He has been great throughout the season and has been getting early wickets for us. We just want to keep improving. It has been a good partnership with the new ball.”
