I-League: Dempo beat 10-man Pailan Arrows

Kolkata, Feb 12 (IANS) Dempo SC consolidated their place at the top of the I-League football table beating Pailan Arrows 2-0 here Sunday.

For the winners Ranti Martins scored both goals in the 53rd and 83rd minute. While Pailan Arrows’ goalkeeper Naveen Kumar was sent off in the 34th minute which turned out to be a key moment in the match.

In the ninth minute, Anthony tried to score with a header which went over the bar. It took about 20 minutes for Dempo to start putting together their passes.

Pailan suffered a big blow when Naveen came off his line and out of the box, bringing down Dempo forward Koko for a straight red card.

Dempo broke the deadlock in the 53rd minute when Ranti Martins scored from a Valeriano Rebello cross.

Pailan brought in striker CS Sabeeth l5 minutes later as they pushed forward for an equaliser. However, Dempo scored again in the 82nd minute, thanks to Martins’ neat finish.

Dempo move to 43 points from 20 matches while Pailan stay on 8 points.
