I am probably playing my best, says Kallis
January 7th, 2011 - 12:12 am ICT by IANSCape Town, Jan 6 (IANS) South African batsman Jacques Kallis, who played a stellar role in the three-match Test series against India, said Thursday that he was in the prime form of his career.”I am probably playing as best I have ever played. I have worked hard in the last 3-4 years and hopefully I can keep scoring for more years,” he said.
The 35-year-old Kallis was Man of the Series after he accumulated 498 runs including his maiden double century (201 not out) in the first Test in Centurion. In the third and the final Test here, Kallis braved a side strain to score centuries in both the innings on his home ground.
“It’s certainly a great honour to do it in front of the Newlands crowd. In my opinion, its the best ground in the world. The team was in trouble in the second innings. Fortunately, Boucher and I had a partnership going. The lower order too contributed,” said Kallis, who was also the Man of the Match.
Kallis rated the unbeaten 109 in the second innings as one of his best knocks.
“I just tried to apply the pressure back on the bowler (reverse sweeps). Fortunately it came off, on another day, you could have got a top edge and look an idiot! Given the situation of the game, the second-innings hundred is up there with the best,” he said.
