Colombo, March 6 (IANS) The International Cricket Counci(ICC) Sunday approved batsman Michael Hussey as a replacement for injured fast bowler Doug Bollinger in the Australian World Cup squad.

The ICC Technical Committee of the 2011 World Cup cleared Hussey’s name and the confirmation was conveyed to Cricket Australia. Bollinger is the 13th player to be replaced in the tournament.

Hussey, 35, had earlier expressed disappointment at being left out out of the 15-man squad due to a hamstring injury.

“The ICC has confirmed the Event Technical Committee of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 has approved Mike Hussey as a replacement player for the injured Doug Bollinger in the Australia squad for the tournament,” said ICC in a release.

Hussey, a left-handed batsman from Perth, has played in 151 ODIs and has scored 4,469 runs at an average of 51.96.

Any injury-based replacement requires a written submission to the event technical committee along with a diagnosis from a medical practitioner as to the extent of the injury. Once replaced, a player may not return to the squad save as an approved subsequent replacement for another player.
