Rio de Janeiro, July 8 (IANS) Brazil international winger Hulk has hit back at criticism from legendary striker Romario by saying he deserves to be respected.
Romario, now a federal deputy for the Brazilian socialist party, said Thursday Hulk should not have been selected in Brazil’s 18-man Olympic squad, which he labelled “rubbish”, reports Xinhua.
“Romario is a guy I have always admired and will always respect, but I think I also deserve respect,” said Hulk.
Hulk, who has been linked with a summer move to Chelsea, was last season voted the best player in the Portuguese top flight, where he plays with Porto.
The 25-year-old will join Thiago Silva (AC Milan) and Marcelo (Real Madrid) as Brazil’s over-23 players in London.
Brazil has been drawn in Group C with Egypt, Belarus and New Zealand.
