London, Dec 19(ANI): Manchester City manager Mark Hughes is set to be axed this weekend even if his side beat Sunderland at Eastlands on Saturday.

City officials are reportedly eager to replace manager Hughes, who has been under scrutiny following the club’s disastrous season so far, where they are languishing at eighth position in the Premier League.

According to reports, club Chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak and owner Sheikh Mansour have also lost their faith on Hughes following City’s 3-0 drubbing at Tottenham on Wednesday.

It is also believed that former Chelsea managers Guus Hiddink, Jose Mourinho and former Bayern Munich manager Jurgen Klinsmann are being considered as a replacement for the 46-year-old.

Hughes had replaced Sven-Goran Eriksson in June 2008 and has spent 250 million pounds on the team, which the club’s owners feel have not seen adequate returns.

Meanwhile, striker Carlos Tevez has said that Hughes needs more time for the club to realize their vision of finishing sixth in the Premier League.

“The reason why I joined City was because I believe in his vision… I support him 100 per cent because I believe that we have made a great deal of progress towards reaching our goal,” The Independent quoted Tevez, as saying.

Earlier, Hughes had admitted that he was under pressure to get results, but claimed the club’s Arab owners were willing to be patient. (ANI)
