Horner plays down Webber’s ‘No 2 driver’ claim
July 20th, 2010 - 5:32 pm ICT by ANILondon, July 20(ANI): Red Bull Racing boss Christian Horner has played down Mark Webber’s “No. 2 driver” remark, and said the team gives equal opportunities to its drivers.
“Mark has not signed a contract as a No 2 driver. He knows the lengths that the team have gone to, to try and achieve parity. He knows how much we have done to support him,” The Independent quoted Horner, as saying.
“Looking objectively at it, he as a sportsman will recognize that sometimes difficult decisions have to be made,” he added.
Webber was furious that a new part from his car was transferred to Vettel’s just prior to qualifying for the British Grand Prix.
After he won the race, he was heard saying that the win was “not bad for a No. 2 driver”.
“Mark is king of the one-liners, as we all know. I think the biggest thing is that he has won the British Grand Prix and I am more than happy with his drive. It was a throw-away comment and I don’t take it with any malice behind it,” Horner said.
He also confirmed that Webber’s new contract gives him equal status with Vettel, whom Red Bull are trying to tie up until 2015. (ANI)
