Hooda elated as Haryana players bag 15 Asian Games medals
November 27th, 2010 - 8:10 pm ICT by IANSChandigarh, Nov 27 (IANS) With sportspersons from Haryana bagging at least 15 medals in the Guangzhou Asian Games, Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda Saturday congratulated them for bringing laurels to the country after their good performance in the New Delhi Commonwealth Games (CWG).
Hooda said that players from Haryana have won three gold, six silver and six bronze medals so far.
“Apart from this feat, our players contributed most in the men and women Indian Kabaddi teams, winning gold medals in both events. The men kabaddi team has seven players from Haryana while two from the state are in the women kabaddi team,” Hooda said.
Hooda said that Haryana players had so far won over 25 per cent of the total medals won by the country.
Haryana boxers Vijender Singh and Vikas Krishan won gold medals in boxing while Sanam Singh bagged another gold medal in tennis doubles event.
Kaptan Singh, Samarjeet, Sonu Narwal, Jagdeep Singh, Jasmer Singh, Anup and Jasmer were part of the gold medal winning men’s Kabaddi team.
Hooda said that Haryana players winning gold, silver and bronze medals would be honoured with cash awards of Rs.2.5 million (Rs.25 lakh), Rs.1.5 million (Rs.15 lakh) and Rs.1 million (Rs.10 lakh), respectively.
