Hoax bomb calls over India-Pakistan match venue
March 27th, 2011 - 8:55 pm ICT by IANSChandigarh, March 27 (IANS) Officials at the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) stadium in neighbouring Mohali went through anxious moments Sunday after a caller repeatedly told the police that a bomb had been placed at the venue of the March 30 India-Pakistan World Cup semifinal. The calls turned out to be a hoax, police said.
According to police, four calls were made Sunday evening from a mobile phone number to the police control rooms here and in Mohali, some 10 km from here.
“We have traced the address of the caller. It is in a slum rehabilitation colony in Palsora town here but now nobody lives there. We have made a special team to nab the accused by ascertaining the location of the mobile phone tower,” Neeraj Sarna, inspector in Chandigarh cyber crime cell, told IANS.
“Four calls were made to Chandigarh and Mohali police controls room from the same number. We would arrest the accused very soon,” he said.
India and Pakistan will play under floodlights Wednesday at the PCA stadium at Mohali. Both the teams are staying at the Taj Hotel here. The Indian team practised at the PCA stadium Sunday.
