Hee, Nicol claim titles
March 7th, 2010 - 11:18 pm ICT by IANSChennai, March 7 (IANS) Top seed Ong Beng Hee of Malaysia dished out an impeccable game to clinch the Chennai Open PSA trophy when he beat second seed Jonathan Kemp of England in the Tamil Nadu Government-sponsored squash championship here Sunday.
Ong defeated Kemp 14-12, 11-9, 11-9 in 47 minutes and collected the trophy and winner’s cash prize of $3942.50.
Nicol David, the women’s World champion from Malaysia, made short work of second seed Jenny Duncalf of England winning 11-6, 11-4, 11-6 in just 25 minuges.
Duncalf was unable to match the superior display of David who kept her opponent pinned to the back before playing aggressive drop to the front. David received the WISPA Chennai Open 2010 trophy and became richer by $8,550.
In the men’s final, Kemp and Beng Hee were trading point for point, but the Malaysian showed alacrity in mixing the pace of his shots. Kemp, who enjoys a fast paced game, had difficulties in adjusting himself to the tactics of the 30-year old Ong, ranked 19 in the World.
