Heading cricket academy a challenging task, says Sandip Patil
October 14th, 2009 - 9:18 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Oct 14 (IANS) Former India batsman Sandeep Patil, who was appointed director of cricket operations of the National Cricket Academy (NCA) Wednesday, said that it he is looking forward to the challenge.
“Being a director of an academy is very different from a national coach’s job. It is a challenging task and I am having goosebumps in my stomach,” Patil, a former national coach, told IANS.
Patil came back into mainstream cricket few months back after severing his ties with the rebel Indian Cricket League (ICL). Patil, who will take over from Nov 1, replaces Australian Dave Whatmore, who had tendered his resignation. The Australian is likely to take over as the Kolkata Knight Riders coach.
Patil, a member of the 1983 World Cup winning team, said that he would be looking for advice from Whatmore and NCA chairman Ravi Shastri.
“Dave is an old friend and I am sure he will help me out and will give me some insights into the role. Ravi’s presence will make the task easy for me,” Patil added.
Whatmore, who coached the 1996 World Cup winning Sri Lankan team, will replace his compatriot John Buchanan, who was sacked after Knight Riders’ disastrous show in both the editions of the IPL.
