HBO To Pay Tribute To Arturo Gatti

gatti The two almost consecutive deaths of former champions (from the sports field) like Steve McNair and Arturo Gatti have left fans considerably stunned; both the deaths are linked as if by sheer coincidence too, owning to the nature in which they were executed. Gatti and McNair both had a violent demise and in both cases, somehow, women were involved. Like in the case of Gatti, his wife is a prime suspect. Now, however, after putting back the sad incidents, tribute segments are being lined up in a effort to acknowledge their contributions.

HBO has announced on Monday, July 13, that the network will pay a tribute to Gatti and his incredible professional boxing career; a period in which he had won the nickname of “Thunder” and had proved himself to be one of the best in his arena.

HBO will replay tapes of Gatti’s career highs, bringing back on screen all the three epic fights he had with Micky Ward on Friday and Saturday. Fans can therefore relive those golden moments of the former champion’s life once more. The first and the third fights were so good that they had won the fight of the year honors. Gatti had won the second and the third fights among the three. It will be telecast on the HBO2 service at 9 p.m ET/PT on Friday and on HBO at 10:15 a.m ET/PT on Saturday. It will also be made available on HBO On Demand from July 20 to August 16.

Gatti’s wife Amanda, a 23 year old Brazilian stripper, has been put under suspicion of his murder (on Saturday, July 11) and has been moved to a women’s detention center near Recife. It is being alleged that she might have used a knife and a purse strap as tools for committing the crime. The motive has not being revealed yet.
