Melbourne, May 29 (ANI): Australia received a jolt ahead of Fridays second Test with Matthew Hayden returning home after failing to recover from a lingering achilles injury.

Ricky Pontings team missed Hayden in the first Test in Jamaica, especially in the second innings when they collapsed to 18 for 5 before recovering to score 167.

The batsman has not recovered as well as expected from the ankle injury since arriving in the Caribbean a fortnight ago, Ponting said.

Hes no good. Haydos will be going home pretty much as soon as possible, Fox Sports quoted the Aussie skipper, as saying.

He just hasn’t come along as Alex Kountouris thought he would have up until this point. Its just not going anywhere so we just want him to get home … and get him back on a program to get him right for the Champions Trophy,” Ponting added.

Simon Katich, who replaced Hayden at the top of the order in Australia first Test win, will again open in the second match at the Sir Viv Richards Stadium in St Johns, Antigua.

Brad Hodge, a late replacement in the squad for Michael Clarke, will remain with the team in the Caribbean but will make way for the vice-captain in the playing XI for the second Test.

Clarke missed the first Test after being granted compassionate leave to remain in Australia with fiancee Lara Bingle following the death of her father. (ANI)
