New Delhi, Oct 31 (IANS) Australian opener Matthew Hayden scored his seventh 50 against India on the third day of the third cricket Test at Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium here Friday.Hayden (87) and Simon Katich (64) produced the first century stand (123) for the first wicket for Australia at Kotla, outstripping the 53 between Collin McDonald and Les Favell in 1959-60.
Other statistical highlights of day three:
# Hayden-Katich pair became the first left-handed opening pair to be associated in a century stand at Kotla and the fifth overall in India, joining Chris Gayle and Wavell Hinds for West Indies - 172 at Kolkata in 2002-03, 159 by Peter Richardson and Geoff Puller for England at Mumbai in 1961-62, 136 by Langer and Hayden for Australia at Chennai in 2004-05 and 124 by Mark Butcher and Marcus Trescothick for England at Ahmedabad in 2001-02.
# During his first fifty of the 2008-09 tour to India, Hayden has completed his 3000 runs away from home in 43 Tests - 3060 at an average of 41.35 in 43 Tests.
# Ricky Ponting scored his 41st fifty in Test Cricket, sixth against India.
# Ponting completed his 4,500 runs as captain - 4512 at an average of 60.97 in 47 Tests, including 16 centuries and 20 fifties.
# Virender Sehwag (3/66) produced his best ever performance against Australia, eclipsing his two for 24 in the 2007-08 Perth Test.
# Katich’s 10th Test fifty is his sixth against India.
# Katich became the second Australian after Michael Hussey (285) to aggregate 200 runs in the series - 217 at an average of 43.40.
