Melbourne, Jan 8 (ANI): Australia’s captain-in-waiting Michael Clarke proved his leadership qualities by inspiring Nathan Hauritz to take his five-wicket haul in final session of the Sydney Test, after the spinner was hit for three boundaries in an over.

Hauritz said he was nervous before tea after he had given three boundaries in one over against Pakistan.

But after a brief chat with Clarke in the dressing room, Hauritz composed himself and bowled Australia to a remarkable 36 run victory on Wednesday.

“My first over before tea I was extremely nervous, I knew there was an opportunity to win the game, but also I had to bowl a lot better. In the end I don’t think I bowled any better than Melbourne (in the Boxing Day Test), the batsmen just got themselves out,” he said.

“I went to the change rooms at tea and had a good long hard think. Pup sort of just sat me down, and I (continued) talking to him as I walked out and he said, don’t worry about the runs, bowl well and you’ll get them out. That sort of reassured me a bit. I had a bit of luck, so it was good in the end,” Hauritz added.

Clarke did a similar thing with Mitchell Johnson during the Ashes, inspiring the pacer to rip through the England line up, The Courier Mail reports.

Hauritz’s second five-wicket haul in as many matches cemented his place as Australia’s No.1 spinner.

Hauritz also spoke highly of captain Ricky Ponting for continuing to show faith in him. (ANI)
