Hauritz to use Warne’s recovery as motivation to return for World Cup
January 24th, 2011 - 3:15 pm ICT by ANIMelbourne, Jan 24 (ANI): To return in time for the ICC World Cup beginning February 19 on the subcontinent, spinner Nathan Hauritz will use Shane Warne’s remarkable recovery from a dislocated shoulder in 2003 as motivation.
Warne was back bowling in just 17 days following arthroscopic surgery to clean up his joint, the same operation Hauritz had in Melbourne on Sunday after his bowling shoulder popped out during Friday night’s one-day match against England in Hobart.
Such an amazing return would have Hauritz available for Australia’s first World Cup match against Zimbabwe on February 21, The Australian reports.
“We’re having a go at trying to get him off to the World Cup. He’s having minor surgery, which is basically a clean-out of the joint, he’s not having the ligament that was torn repaired, because that takes months and months to heal,” said team physiotherapist Alex Kountouris.
“So he’s going to do (something) similar to what Shane Warne did in 2003 and have a go at trying to come back quickly,” he said.
Describing Hauritz’s injury as amazing, Kountouris said: “It’s a really freaky situation. He got into position where the shoulder popped out, but there wasn’t a lot of force associated with it, and he’s never had a history of any shoulder injuries.”
Kountouris also described Mike Hussey’s injury as amazing after he tore part of his hamstring tendon from the bone and needed surgery to reattach it. (ANI)
