Harris vows to pound England if selected for first Ashes Test
November 16th, 2010 - 2:41 pm ICT by ANIMelbourne, Nov 16 (ANI): Australia bowler Ryan Harris has vowed to pound England batsmen if he is selected for the first Ashes Test starting on November 25 at the Gabba.
Harris is very much in Australia’s Ashes battle plans against England with the speedster rushed to Melbourne for a private session with national team physio Alex Kountouris to prove his knee is a safe selection bet.
Harris is determined to continue the form that delivered a nine-wicket haul against Tasmania in Hobart last weekend.
“If the time comes next Thursday and I am required, I am expecting to play at this stage. If I am picked in Brisbane I will be ready to go. I feel confident,” said Harris.
Harris said no one could bowl 75 overs on return from surgery without some swelling and would miss Australia A’s match against England in Hobart from Wednesday purely as a precaution, FOX Sports reports.
“It’s just about looking after the knee more than anything with a big series coming up. Anyone would be sore after going from a knee operation to bowling 12 overs in grade cricket then 75 overs in a week in games with Queensland,” said Harris.
“I proved to myself mentally - which is most important - that I can get through a game. I can put up with whatever minimal pain there is,” he said.
Harris said his match-winning 9-140 through 45 overs in front of Test skipper Ricky Ponting at Bellerive was a piece of good timing ahead of the Ashes squad announcement. (ANI)
