kerneyVancouver, Feb 14, (THAINDIAN NEWS) American mogul skier Hannah Kearney has won the gold medal in the Winter Olympics at Vancouver in the women’s free style moguls on Saturday. The victory was all the more special for America as it marked the first gold medal of the nation in the multi-sport event.

In order to win the much coveted title, Hannah Kearney had to beat Canadian Jennifer Heil, who won the silver medal and lost the opportunity of becoming the first Canadian to grab the gold medal in hometown. However, it was the 24 year old Hannah Kearney who managed to completely steal the show with her outstanding run in the competition. After being the first one to reach the finishing line with the winning score of 26.63, the American skier was visibly exhilarated as she gave out a loud scream and hugged Shannon Bahrke, who grabbed the third position and as a result won the bronze medal. The competition witnessed Hannah Kearney deliver a back flip as well as a 360-degree spin in order to emerge victorious.

This was surely one of the performances which the 2005 World champion would surely like to remember especially after her disappointing show four years ago, in which the much acclaimed skier could not even make it beyond the qualifying round. Although, Hannah Kearney was the favorite when she entered the Olympics in 2006, she failed to give a decent performance and as a result was knocked out of the top 20. However, the skier surely ended all doubts about her skills this time around as she displayed a remarkable run which enabled her to win the gold medal.
