Hamilton wins Chinese Grand Prix to end Vettel’s winning streak
April 17th, 2011 - 6:37 pm ICT by ANIShanghai, Apr 17(ANI): McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton won the Chinese Grand Prix on Sunday to deny reigning Formula One champion Sebastian Vettel a third win in a row.
Hamilton, who used a three-stop strategy to Vettel’s two, made full use of his fresher tires to finish 5.1 seconds ahead of the Red Bull driver at the Shanghai International Circuit.
Vettel, who had won the first two races from pole position, was trying to become the first driver since Michael Schumacher in 2004 to start the season with three straight victories.
Red Bull’s Mark Webber, who started 18th, made a remarkable run to finish third, while McLaren’s Jenson Button was fourth.
German Nico Rosberg brought his Mercedes home in fifth place ahead of Ferrari’s Felipe Massa and Fernando Alonso, the Sydney Morning Herald reports.
Schumacher finished eighth in the second Mercedes ahead of Renault’s Vitaly Petrov and Sauber’s Kamui Kobayashi.
With three races completed, Vettel leads the drivers’ standings with 68 points, ahead of Hamilton (47 points), Button (38 points) and Webber (37 points).
The next race will be the Turkish Grand Prix on May 8. (ANI)
