London, Apr 24(ANI): McLaren Fomula One team chief executive Martin Whitmarsh is confident that British ace Lewis Hamilton will continue to be the team’s trump card for the next 10 years.

“Lewis has a long career ahead of him and I think he’s intelligent enough to realize that the environment he has here is good for him and plays to his strengths. Lewis has made it clear to me he wants to stay in the team and I’ve made it clear to him I want him to stay,” the Daily Mail quoted McLaren, as saying.

“At some point, we need to get a contractual agreement that reflects that, of course. But I don’t think - despite the media interest - that either of us thinks we have to get to a contract in three months or six months. I trust him and I think he trusts me.”

“We are focused on winning the championship this year, next year, in five years and 10 years’ time, as motor-racing is our core business,” he added.

Hamilton had scored his first title success three seasons ago having almost become world champion in his rookie year of 2007. Since then, the 26-year-old has found the going rather tougher.

He finished fifth in the 2009 drivers’ championship after McLaren overcame a difficult start to the season and was fourth in the standings last year, despite remaining a title challenger until the final race.

There are rumours that he could move on if he does not regain his crown this year. (ANI)
