Hamilton says ridiculous ‘Singapore Sling’ chicane, an accident waiting to happen
September 25th, 2010 - 2:39 pm ICT by ANIMarina Bay (Singapore), Sep 25(ANI): British Formula One ace Lewis Hamilton fears that there could be a ‘nasty’ accident in Sunday’s Singapore Grand Prix.
Several tweaks have been made to the Marina Bay circuit for this year’s race, with the ‘Singapore Sling’ chicane modified as it had been a cause of concern for drivers over the past years.
“The chicane is probably the worst corner I’ve ever driven in F1,” The Sun quoted Hamilton, as saying.
“It’s ridiculous. If someone’s brakes fail and they hit a kerb, we are going to see a nasty accident,” he added.
Meanwhile, McLaren team-mate Jenson Button said that his main concern was Turn 5.
“Turn 5 for me is the biggest issue. They resurfaced it and it’s very negative camber so you turn in and you lose the rear end and it feels pretty uncontrollable,” Button said.
“It’s a pretty tough corner, especially because the water is still in the asphalt there,” he added.
With just five races left, Red Bull’s Mark Webber currently has the championship lead.
At 187 points, Webber is now five points ahead of Hamilton and 21 in front of Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso.
Button is at fourth place with 165 points. (ANI)
