Hamilton excited at Schumacher’s return
August 1st, 2009 - 9:53 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Aug 1 (IANS) British Formula One racer Lewis Hamilton Saturday said he is excited at the return of seven-times world champion Michael Schumacher.
The German racing legend, who quit F1 at the end of 2006, Wednesday confirmed he would slot in alongside Kimi Raikkonen in the European Grand Prix in Valencia Aug 23 and possibly for the remainder of the season, following Felipe Massa’s Hungarian GP crash.
“I am excited that Schumacher is making a comeback. It’s an honour. When I began my career, he was making an exit. It doesn’t matter whether I win or lose. The fact I will be able to drive alongside Schumacher is something I can carry all my life,” Hamilton, who was here for a Vodafone promotional event, said.
Commenting on the risk involved in the motor sport following Massa’s accident, the 24-year-old Briton said: “My thoughts go to Massa’s family. We racers before every race meet with governing body FIA and FOTA to discuss what can be done to ensure the safety of the players.
“FIA and FOTA have done a good job considering there have been no deaths in a decade except few freaky incidents like this.”
Hamilton, who ended his title drought this season at the Hungarian Grand Prix last week, is next headed for the European Grand Prix in Valencia.
