Hamilton, Button will be scared over Schumacher’s return: Jackie Stewart
March 5th, 2010 - 3:56 pm ICT by ANILondon, Mar 5(ANI): Britain’s three-time Formula One world champion Sir Jackie Stewart reckons McLaren team-mates Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button will be dreading getting beaten up by Michael Schumacher on his comeback.
The trio are preparing to fight it out on the track for the first time at the season-opening race in Bahrain next Sunday.
“You’ve got Jenson in there as world champion and you’ve got Lewis, who wants the world championship back. To see that occurring with Schumacher back, that’s the extra edge for them,” The Sun quoted Stewart, as saying.
“Do they really want to be beaten up by a guy of 41, who has already been out of the sport? He’s going to come back and say ‘I know how to do this, I certainly know how to thread the needle’,” he added.
He further said Hamilton and Button’s McLaren car looked to have the edge over seven-time world champion’s Mercedes in pre-season testing last week, but insists that Schumacher’s vast-experience will help him.
“It’s fantastic for motor racing that he’s back because he is now the biggest focus of interest. Maybe it will take him another year to get the car up to speed. It may not be as good a car as Ferrari and McLaren are producing this year,” Stewart said.”I could see him not being up at the front row to begin with, but you certainly couldn’t count him out,” he added.
