Hall Of Fame Pitcher Robin Roberts Passes Away At 83

May 7, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Hall of Fame pitcher Robin Roberts, who is best known for his association with the Philadelphia Phillies, passed away on Thursday morning due to natural causes. According to reports that have surfaced, the celebrated pitcher breathed his last at his home in Terrace Temple, Florida and was 83 years old at the time of his unfortunate demise. He is survived by his four sons, brother, grandchildren as well as a great-grandchild. His wife, Mary, passed away about five years back. The news of the death of Robin Roberts has sent shock waves across the sporting fraternity especially with the teams that he was known to have been associated with.
The news of the renowned pitcher’s death has also been validated by the Philadelphia Phillies which released a statement later on Thursday confirming the news. In order to commemorate the unprecedented contribution that Robin Roberts had made to the success of the team during his tenure, Philadelphia Phillies lowered their 1950 pennant to half mast yesterday. Team officials have also revealed that the team would wear No.36 which was the jersey number of the much acclaimed pitcher, on their sleeves for the remaining part of the season.
Robin Roberts had earned a name for himself as he had won 286 games and at the same time also had six consecutive 20-win seasons. The Hall of Fame pitcher lead the Philadelphia Phillies to the National League pennant in the year 1950 which was the team’s first pennant in almost 35 years. Owning to his overpowering skills over the game, Robin Roberts was considered to be one of the best pitchers of 1950’s.
