Haddin takes first steps to regaining Test spot before Ashes
October 6th, 2010 - 5:28 pm ICT by ANIMelbourne, Oct 6 (ANI): Brad Haddin, who has been sidelined from international cricket for nearly five months due to injury, took a significant step to regaining his position in the Australian team before the Ashes.
Haddin made 77 for New South Wales in a second XI match against Victoria at Blacktown.
Haddin has been absent from the national team since developing severe left-elbow tendon pain during the World Twenty20 tournament in May.
He was not able to make return to the national side for the July Test series against Pakistan in England and the current series in India due to his stagnant recovery.
NSW assistant coach David Freedman said the injury had only affected his batting but expressed confidence it had now been cured, The Age reports.
“In the nets he’s been able to play his full range of shots for the past week or so, front and back foot,” Freedman said.
“He paced his innings nicely [yesterday]. He played down the ground with the full face of the bat initially and then got himself set and had lovely footwork to the spinners … and punished anything short against the quicker bowlers. It was a typical Haddin innings.”
Haddin will continue his comeback as part of the NSW team that will travel to South Australia for a one-dayer on Saturday and a Sheffield Shield match starting on Monday. (ANI)
