London, Nov.15 (ANI): Coach Arsene Wenger believes Arsenal displayed all qualities needed to be champions as the Gunners moved to within two points of Premier League leader Chelsea.
The Gunners’ shock home defeat by Newcastle has been followed by wins at Wolves and Everton.
Strikes from Bacary Sagna and Cesc Fabregas ended Everton’s seven-match unbeaten run and showed Arsenal can push Chelsea all the way.
The Sun quoted Wenger, as saying: “I have been saying that for a long time, and here we showed all the most important qualities you need - desire, commitment, discipline and a togetherness for the full 90 minutes.”
He added: “We had two very difficult away games against Wolves and Everton and we got six points.”
“I feel the performance has shown we have not only quality football but fighting spirit. Those are ingredients you need if you are to battle for the title,” he said.
Arsenal were so dominant for the first hour that they threatened a repeat of last season’s remarkable 6-1 victory at Goodison Park.
The Arsenal manager played down Nicklas Bendtner’s threat to leave the Gunners if he does not get a regular starting spot.
Wenger said: “It is very difficult for me. He was not in the squad today because he had a little groin problem. But does he have a future here? Yes, at the moment, for the length of his contract, which has another three years to run.” (ANI)
