Gul bags maiden World Cup MOM award (Match highlights)

Pallekele (Sri Lanka), March 15 (IANS) Pakistan’s Umar Gul got his maiden World Cup man of the match award for his bowling after his team’s seven-wicket victory over Zimbabwe in a Group A match Monday. He also became the second Pakistani bowler to claim ten wickets (ave.16.00) in the present tournament.

The other highlights:

*Shahid Afridi is the top wicket-taker with 16 wickets.

*Asad Shafiq (78 not out) posted his career-best innings in ODIs - his second fifty, eclipsing 50 against England at Leeds on September 12, 2010. His innings is the second best on World Cup debut by a Pakistani batsman. Mohsin Khan had recorded 82 against Sri Lanka at Swansea on June 9, 1983. Shafiq along with Mohammad Hafeez shared a stand of 82 for the second wicket - Pakistan’s best against Zimbabwe at the World Cup.

*Pakistan have won four out of five contested against Zimbabwe in the World Cup.

*Pakistan (NRR +0.729) became the second team after New Zealand (NRR +1.957)to win four games in the present competition of the world cup.

*Mohammad Hafeez (49) has recorded his highest innings at the World Cup, bettering the 32 against Sri Lanka at Colombo (RPS) on Feb 26, 2011.

*Zimbabwe (151/7) have posted their second highest score against Pakistan at the World Cup - the best is 201 for seven at Hobart on Feb 27, 1992.

*Craig Ervine (52 off 82 balls) has recorded his second fifty at the world cup - his best ever is 85 against Canada at Nagpur on Feb 28, 2011. Apart from his two fifties, Ervine had made 67 not out off 60 balls against India at Bulawayo on May 28, 2010.

*Elton Chigumbura and Prosper Utseya added 48 for the seventh wicket - Zimbabwe’s highest against Pakistan at the World Cup. Zimbabwe’s highest ever for the seventh wicket at the World Cup is 75 (unbroken) between Butchart and Fletcher against Australia at Nottingham on June 9, 1983.
