539wGreg Montalbano, a former player of the Red Sox, died on Friday night after 10 years of battling with Cancer at the age of 31. Carlos Pena, his good friend dedicated his Saturday night action to his late friend. Pena nostalgically said, “He was my right hand in college.” The two had attended Northeast University together.

Montalbano family is genuinely supported by Greg’s friends who were in the same profession. Kevin Youkilis also showed off a warm tribute to the demise by wearing a cap having the initials GM on it on Saturday. He had been with Greg on the Red Sox in the start of the decade. After he gave some great show on the field he pointed to the sky and signaled his wishes to Montalbano saying “there’s somebody there pushing balls out and doing great things for you.” Prior to the game, Red Sox Team recalled Montalbano holding few minutes of silence for him.It was sort of touchy that both Carlos (1500 miles from Fenway), and Youkilis had made home runs and compassionately dedicated them To Greg. The great thing is that professional players in the habit of playing 162 games of a season do not slow down thinking about the mishaps that may have effected them emotionally, even if they occurred a night before their most happening matches. Montalbano was with the Red Sox until 2004.

He was favorably called the Minor League Pitcher Of The Year 2001. The player was known to be one fiercest left-hander.

Greg was waiting to be operated in January 2007. In the meantime off the matches, he indulged in fishing, outdoor games and hunting. He was known to have fought the disease very bravely and independently, not pouting about how cancer had slowed his metabolism, or affected the growth of his facial hair.
