waveDec. 09, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Greg Long won against Kelly Slater in the Eddie Aikau Invitational, that was held at the Waimea Bay in Oahu, emerging as the winner in the champion this year. He bagged the prize money of 55,000 US dollars. His score, 323, was closely followed by the surfing pro Kelly Slater, who finished second with 131 points. The win was decided quite late in the competition, with Kelly Slater riding much ahead of the other.

The win in the Eddie Aikau big wave invitational must come as a landmark in the career of Greg Long, and the fulfillment of a life long dream. He had contested and defeated Kelly Slater, the surfing veteran, and deemed as a hero by Greg Long. This win remains all the more special as he did not have much of a chance to win, considering that this championship was the first time that he was riding the waves at Waimea. However, he attacked the waves with his characteristic never say die spirit, and tackled even the biggest of them, about 12 to 15 meters and even secured a 100 pointer.

Greg Long was ecstatic about the win, but even more thrilled to be part of the event. In the post victory interview, he gushed that it was realization of a dream for him to be present at the same event as those he looked up to. Also, the event itself was a dream one for an avid surfer like him. He confesses that he is a passionate surfer, and that there is nothing he enjoys more than riding the colossal waves.
