Government extends income bracket for creamy layer for OBC
October 3rd, 2008 - 8:33 pm ICT by ANINew Delhi , Oct 3 (ANI): The Union Cabinet on Friday gave its approval for revising the income criteria for creamy layer from the present Rs.2.5 lakhs per annum to Rs.4.5 lakhs per annum.
The revision of income criteria was done to exclude socially advanced persons or sections (creamy layer) from the list of Other Backward Classes (OBCs)
This action of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government gains momentum in the wake of upcoming elections in various States later this year.
Union Cabinet also approved 30 per cent interim relief for journalists and non-journalist employees of the newspaper industry to be paid by the newspaper establishments with effect from January 8, 2008.
The Government has approved payment of Productivity Linked Bonus (PLB) equivalent to 73 days wages to the eligible non-gazetted railway employees for the financial year 2007-08.
Elections will be held later this year in Delhi , Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, and Jammu and Kashmir . (ANI)
