Goutham Parekh to drive in ME series
January 11th, 2011 - 5:49 pm ICT by IANSChennai, Jan 11 (IANS) Goutham Parekh, the 24-year old from Chennai, will be participating in the WGA Supercars ME Championship which is a joint venture of the Western Gulf Advisory and the Bahrain International Circuit and will boast a lineup of powerful Chevrolet Lumina V8 Supercars.Parekh, the 2007 JK Tyre Junior Cup, has been offered a fully funded drive after he finished third in the 2010 LGB Formula Swift championship representing the Team WSRF.
“Heading into the new campaign, the Chevrolet Supercars Middle East remains the region’s most popular and most highly regarded circuit racing series, and the only one sanctioned by the International Automobile Federation (FIA).
“It is indeed an honour to be the only Indian selected to contest the entire Championship and I would have to thank Team WSRF and Karun Chandhok in particular who has guided me through my racing all along and without whom this would not be possible,” Parekh said in a press release here Tuesday.
India’s youngest Formula 1 driver and co-owner of WSRF, Karun Chandhok said: “It is great to see one of our boys being chosen to drive in the WGA Championship. It is a great opportunity for Goutham and a huge step up for him.”
Parekh has been supported entirely by Team WSRF through his years in the Indian National Racing Championship and will now be joining the Speeding Saddles Team, part of the Western Gulf Advisory, who will go on to participate in the British F3 Championship after the conclusion of the Chevrolet Supercars series.
Parekh will kick of his campaign at the Reem International circuit in Saudi Arabia before racing in front of packed audiences as the Official support race for the GP2 Series and then for the Bahrain Formula 1 Grand Prix on March 12 and 13.
The Championship also visits the spectacular Yas Marina circuit before its finale at the picturesque Losail International Circuit in Qatar, home to the Moto GP’s only night race.
